Parchester Village was built in the early 40’s and is the oldest African-American subdivision in California.

Don Parr was the land owner of Parchester. He got together with southern  ministers to create a congregation of housing.

Black ministers fought hard for the preservation of open space.

The private land owner made verbal agreements which are no longer in place.
